Conference Info

San Diego State University is located just off Interstate 8, at College Avenue. We are twenty minutes from the San Diego International Airport.

Registration 

We are only asking presenters to pay registration, not general attendees.  You can do so online or on the first day of the conference. 

We ask that:

  • presenters with institutional support pay $100;
  • presenters without institutional support pay $50,
  • and student presenters pay $25.

Registration covers conference costs that we were not about to completely cover through fundraising. 

Dinners

We are hosting dinner in conjunction with both of the Keynote Addresses (Krista Comer on Fri. evening and Cori Schumacher on Sat. evening). We are asking for a $10 contribution per dinner. This will include East African food on Friday night and Pizza on Saturday, and beer and soda on both nights. We ask that you pay in cash or Venmo at the door or at the conference registration table. Your $10 will also come with a raffle ticket.  We will be raffling several items including a Firewire surfboard!

  • Friday night dinner will be at Bird’s Surf Shed on Moreno, and amazing surf shot/museum. Dinner will be followed by a viewing of Andy Able’s film Splinters. View map.
  • Saturday night dinner will be at Oggi’s Pizza on campus and feature a DJ (the keynote for that night will be before dinner in the conference room). View map.

Conference Locations

  • On Friday April 26th all presentations (expect the Keynote address) will be on SDSU Campus at the Tula Community Center. View map.
  • On Saturday April 27th all presentations (including the Keynote address) will be on SDSU Campus at the Tula Community Center. View map.
  • On Sunday April 28th all presentation will be on SDSU campus at Storm Hall & Storm Hall West. View map.

Parking

Unfortunately, we are unable to cover the cost of parking; however, there is very convenient parking near both of the on campus conference locations. Visitor parking is only $5/day and can be purchased through the paybyphone app. Instructions are one signs at the lot. For Friday and Saturday we recommend parking in Lots 3 or 4 (View maps: PK 3 and PK 4) and for Sunday in Lot 12 (View map).

There is also a trolley stop on campus and ride sharing drop off locations.

Paddle Out

We are hosting paddle outs on Saturday and Sunday 6:00 - 8:30 AM before the presentations start. 

  • Saturday we will surf at La Jolla shores. View map.

Presenter Technology

Every conference room will have fully capable technology set ups, including a laptop. Additionally ,on Fri. and Sat., the Tula Community Center uses application Solstice which allows you to stream direct from your laptop to the project. Please feel free to down the app to your laptop.

Books Selling/Swapping

We will have a table setup for which you can sell your books if you’d like.
